Mysore Rasam podi - an easy way to make Mysore rasam without roasting and grinding fresh masalas.
Ingredients: Pigeon Peas, Coriander Seeds, Dried Red Chillies, Dessicated Coconut, Black Peppercorn, Cumin Seeds, Turmeric, Asafoetida.
Method - same as regular rasam. Use this Mysore rasam podi - 2-3 tbsp for a small gooseberry sized tamarind. Add more dal than regular rasams. Mysore rasam is usually thicker than regular rasams. My mil sometimes makes garlic mysore rasam. Its really delicious. Method - pressure cook about 20 cloves of garlic with turmeric powder. Add this to the rasam and proceed like regular rasam. Surprsingly, this will not have an over powering garlic flavour inspite of adding so much !
