Making a perfect Oats Upma using a pre-mix is quick and easy. The 1:1 water ratio works for this mix.

Here is your step-by-step guide:

Perfect Oats Upma (1:1 Ratio)

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Oats Upma Mix
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Optional: A squeeze of lemon and fresh coriander for garnish.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Boil the Water: In a pan, bring exactly 1 cup of water to a rolling boil. If you like your upma with extra vegetables, you can sauté a few finely chopped carrots or peas in a little oil before adding the water.
  2. Add the Mix: Once the water is boiling rapidly, reduce the heat to low. Slowly pour in 1 cup of Oats Upma Mix.
  3. The Stirring Technique: Similar to making Rava Upma, stir continuously as you add the mix to prevent any lumps from forming. Ensure the water and the mix are well combined.
  4. Simmer and Steam: Cover the pan with a lid and let it cook on low heat for about 2–3 minutes. This allows the oats to absorb the moisture evenly.
  5. Fluff and Rest: Turn off the heat. Keep the lid on and let it rest for another 2 minutes. This "resting time" is the secret to getting that perfect, non-mushy texture.
  6. Final Touch: Remove the lid, fluff the upma gently with a fork, and garnish with fresh coriander or a dash of lemon juice if desired.

Pro-Tips for Best Results

  • Don't Over-Stir: Once the water is absorbed, avoid heavy stirring, as this can break the oats and make them mushy.
  • Ratio Matters: Stick strictly to the 1:1 ratio. Unlike traditional rolled oats which often require more liquid, the Upma Mix is designed to be light and savory.
