One of my dad's favourite sides, he would always ask me to make this when he visited, or when I went home. For me, this is nostalgia and love. I learnt this from my mil, who is from Tanjore. Have not had this before I got married.

A tasty, healthy dish made with raw plantains !
Ingredients

Raw plantain - 3 to 4

Coconut oil
-
Cococnut - grated - ½ cup or so - go by eye

Mustard seeds

Urad dal

Channa dal
-
Jeera
-
Curry leaves
-
Asafoetida
-
Ginger - grated

Green chillies - 3-4 or to taste

Salt to taste

Freshly chopped corainder

Lemon - 1 or to taste
Directions
- Wash and clean raw plantains - 4 nos.
- Remove edges and cut into halves.
- Boil plantain halves in water.
- Test if cooked by inserting knife. If soft, switch off. Must not over cook.
- Outer cover would have changed into a dark shade from green.
- Remove from water and let it cool on a plate.
- Remove outer skin and grate.
- Heat oil in kadai. I prefer coconut oil. Add mustard seeds, urad dal, Channa dal, jeera, curry leaves, chopped green chillies (2-3), grated ginger (1” pc) and hing. Add grated plaintain. Add salt. Mix well. Doesn’t need to cook for long.
- Garnish with fresh coconut and chopped coriander. Add Juice of half lemon or 1, depending on the size. Serve !
