Ingredients

Raw plantains / Vazhakkai - 2 to 3

Turmeric powder
-
Grated Coconut - ½ cup

Black pepper corns - ½ tsp

Jeera - 1 tsp
-
Coconut oil for tempering

Mustard seeds 1 tsp

Red chillies -2 to 3

Curry leaves - a few
-
Asafoetida - a pinch

Jaggery - a small piece -optional - I love the mild sweetness
Directions
Cube vazhakkais and cook with a bit of turmeric powder
Grind together into a corase paste by adding a little water - grated coconut, black pepper corns and jeera
Heat kadai, add coconut oil and temper with mustard seeds, jeera and red chillies. Add curry leaves and asafoetida.
Add the cooked vazhakkai pieces, salt and the ground mizture and cook on low heat until it all comes together. Add a bit of jaggery if you like the flavour. I do !
Serve with rice and a delicious sambar !
Recipe Note
Erisseri can be made with yams too. We also make Chakka erisseri when it is jack fruit seasona and that I can finish in one sitting !
