A simple and common thogayal using coconuts - my sister's recipe
Ingredients
- Fresh coconut - 1/2 coconut
- Urad dal - couple of tbsp
- Boiled rice (not cooked ) - 1 tbsp - puzhungal arisi

Red chillies - 8 to 10 or to taste

Tamarind - gooseberry sized
- Jaggery to taste

Salt
Directions
Roast urad dal, rice and red chillies.
- Add all other ingredients and grind coarse and thick. Dont add too much water.
- Optional - you can lightly roast the coconut.
- Tempering - coconut oil, mustard seeds, red chillies, urad dal, hing, curry leaves.
You can also add a small bunch of fresh coriander leaves while grinding. Optional.
Recipe Note
Goes great with plain rice and kootu ! It tastes really good as a spread for rotis or bread too !
