Keerai / Cheera Thoran ( Greens stir fry) - Kerala style

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch of any greens - finely chopped and washed. here Naadan keera from Kerala is used, it is a variety with big stems and big leafs. You can use any greens.

  • Onions - 2 medium sized - finely chopped

  • Green chillies - 2 or to taste - finely chopped

  • Coconut oil

  • Mustard seeds

  • Urad dal

  • Jeera

  • Red chillies

  • Salt to taste

  • Grated coconut - about ½ cup for garnish.

Directions

  1. Heat kadai. Add coconut oil. Temper with mustard seeds, urad dal, jeera, red chillies.

  2. Add finely chopped onions and green chillies. Saute.

  3. Add finely chopped Keerai, add salt and sauté until it’s cooked. You don’t need water. The washed moisture on the leaves is enough to cook it.

  4. Once done, garnish with grated coconut. And done!

  5. Tastes great with just plain rice or serve with sambar, rasam, the works!
